As a former calligrapher and graphic designer, typographical forms are like a Siren song to me... this new collage series will be intoxicating for me to create!
This piece was created by DaDa artist and queen of collage - Hannah Hoch, a rare but prominent female artist in the early 1900's. Her work borrowed images from popular culture and utilized the dismemberment and reassembly into works with themes of feminism, racial discrimination, and criticism of the German government. At first glance, you might think her work playful in nature as she presented her messages metaphorically rather than the violent and direct presentation her contemporaries employed. Hannah is responsible for pioneering some of the most important Dada and avant-garde art and one of the most important female artists of the 20th century.
